Pacific Northwestern doom metal monolith BELL WITCH will see the release of their new album “Future’s Shadow Part 1: The Clandestine Gate” on April 21st digitally followed by its physical release on 2LP/2CD/Cassette, June 9.  Pre-orders, along with a short-making of video of the album are now live (link in bio).  As well, the band have announced a surprise appearance at this year’s Roadburn Festival on April 20th where they will perform “The Clandestine Gate” in its entirety.

For their new album, bassist/vocalist Dylan Desmond and drummer/vocalist Jesse Shreibman exploded Bell Witch's bounds. Like 2017's lauded “Mirror Reaper”, “The Clandestine Gate” is a single 83-minute track -- a composition that pulses and breathes on a filmic timeframe. It constitutes the first chapter in a planned triptych of longform albums, collectively called “Future's Shadow.”

While traces of organ and synthesizer hovered over “Mirror Reaper” and Bell Witch's 2020 collaboration with Aerial Ruin, “Stygian Bough Volume 1”, “The Clandestine Gate” drew those instruments closer to the center of its compositions.  The band reunited with their longtime producer Billy Anderson as they began negotiating these new compositional weights.  On “The Clandestine Gate”, Bell Witch's twinned voices build off of the chantlike textures of previous records while steering toward more developed melodic lines, structured harmonies, and rhythmic death metal growls.

The immense gravity of a work like “The Clandestine Gate”, which features exclusive stunning cover art by Jordi Diaz Alama, allows ideas to simmer in a way that feels profoundly and somatically intuitive -- not just a philosophical exercise, but an embodied truth. By slowing down both their creative process and the tempo of the music itself, Bell Witch digs even deeper into their long standing focus: the way life spills on inside its minuscule container, both eternal and fleeting, a chord that echoes without resolution.

The debut collaboration album from doom metal giants BELL WITCH and AERIAL RUIN, the solo folk project of singer/songwriter Erik Moggridge, under the moniker of STYGIAN BOUGH is a culmination of the work of both artists as witnessed previously on BELL WITCH's three full-length albums where Moggrdige has contributed guest vocals.  With each succeeding BELL WITCH release, we have seen Moggridge's involvement with BELL WITCH developing, growing and getting more elaborate.  "Stygian Bough: Vol 1", produced by Randall Dunn (Sunn 0))), Wolves In The Throne Room, Anna Von Hausswolff), follows up BELL WITCH's colossal "Mirror Reaper" opus with Moggrdige actually being involved in the creative and writing process with the BELL WITCH duo of Dylan Desmond (bass/vocals) and Jesse Shreibman (drums/synthesizers/vocals).  Not only does STYGIAN BOUGH expand and broaden the alliance of BELL WITCH and AERIAL RUIN, but with AERIAL RUIN contributing to the songwriting of this dedicated collaboration and incorporating his signature and alluring style of emotionally driven folk, along with taking the lead vocal position on this, to BELL WITCH’s caliber of unearthly towering doom, STYGIAN BOUGH becomes its own singular doom metal entity unparalleled.

With their third full-length album “Mirror Reaper”, Seattle doom metal duo BELL WITCH have created their most enormous and all encompassing work to date that will see its official release on Digital/2xCD/2xLP on Oct 20 th . By taking heir blueprint for minimalistic (the sole use of bass guitar, drums, and vocals), mournful, yet massive sounding doom to a new level with “Mirror Reaper”, BELL WITCH have attempted the unthinkable in the genre; a continuous 83 minute piece unfolding as a single time- stretching track. Once again engineered and mixed by veteran producer Billy Anderson who claims “Mirror Reaper” as one of the milestones in his entire producing career, the duo of Dylan Desmond (bass, vocals) and Jesse Shreibman (drums, vocals, organ) have pushed the BELL WITCH sound even further beyond their landmark 2015 LP, the genre defining “Four Phantoms”. While still harnessing that massive, overwhelming, monolithic crushing enveloping heaviness “Mirror Reaper” sees BELL WITCH explore even further the other aspect of their sound; the more meditative, melancholic, introspective, and somber tones making these elements even more singular. With the addition of organ adding a new layer to BELL WITCH’s sound “Mirror Reaper” also sees honorary BELL WITCH member and guest vocalist Erik Moogridge (of Aerial Ruin) return once again offering an even more prominent presence with his vocals.

BELL WITCH, formed by Dylan Desmond (ex-Samothrace) and ex-drummer/vocalist Adrian Guerra (RIP) first made an immediate impact within the death/doom metal scene with their 011 self-titled demo and would then partner with Profound Lore Records for the release of their debut album “Longing” in Nov 2012. The duo’s second LP, the acclaimed “Four Phantoms” released in April of 2015 would result in being recognized as one of the doom metal triumphs of that year. It was a turning point album which saw the band do even more extensive touring (in North America and Europe) and perform at many notable events and festivals such as Roadburn, Basilica Soundscape, Pitchfork  Northside, Sled Island, and Psycho CA.  Sept of 2015 would see a crucial turning point which saw Guerra leave the band and be replaced by current drummer/keyboardist/vocalist Jesse Shreibman. In May 2016 tragedy would hit with the untimely death of former and co-founding member Adrian Guerra.

On the themes surrounding the concept and lyrics of “Mirror Reaper” the band state, “Our original idea for this record was to write a two song album titled ‘As Above/So Below’. These two songs would have been split into seven movements to correlate with the 7 Hermetic principals. The process took a life of it's own and upon completion we have 1 song spanning 83 minutes. It is to be titled ‘Mirror Reaper’ in reference to the axiom ‘As Above So Below’. During the writing process we were devastated by the loss of our dear friend and former drummer, Adrian Guerra. In love and respect to his memory, we reserved an important yet brief section in the song for him that features vocal tracks left over from our last album. We believe he would be proud of it.”
